About

Jo Robles is a past MOCA Artist-in-Residence and Tucson native now based in Brooklyn. His diverse work represents a wide range of styles in which he chooses to engage. Driven by a commitment to the "automatic drawing" philosophy popularized by the early Surrealists, Robles' work is as varied as the human imagination. Linking each of his works is a unique and counterintuitive palette, a lyrical gestural style and a fluid relationship between the figurative and the abstract. In a sense, all of his work can be understood as landscape—urban, interior, psychic, pastoral.
